Perugia, July 11th - 20th 2014
The Umbria Jazz Festival is the most important Italian jazz festival and one of the most significant jazz festivals in the world, held every year at the beginning of July, since 1973. For ten days the music spreads around the city center of Perugia, and the entire city turns into a stage. The Festival attracts over 200,000 people gathering in the gorgeous medieval city to enjoy Jazz music performed by acclaimed artists from around the world.
This coming edition will be the 41st (July 11th-20th) and will be still predominantly a jazz fest, however supporters will have the opportunity to enjoy a wider variety of music genres including rock and roll, Cuban salsa and African tribal music. Many performances will take place outdoors, most of which are free to attend, while the most important artists will perform in the Arena of Santa Giuliana or within the inside venues. Moreover many restaurants, wine bars and pubs host free concerts and jam sessions for their customers.
The 2014 edition will host among others Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, the Roots, Dobet Gnahoré, Monty Alexander and the “Harlem Kingston express”, Gonzalo Rubalcaba with its band the Volcan, Michel Camilo, Hiromi, Natalie Cole, Fiorella Mannoia, Fabrizio Bosso, Danilo Rea, Dr John, and the Daptone Super Soul Revue.
