In occasione dell'evento FestivOl, che si svolgerà a Trevi nei giorni 1 e 2 novembre, sarà inaugurata l'esposizione degli scatti di McCurry dedicati al paesaggio umbro, presso l'Oleoteca di via A. Fantosati. Nei 2 giorni dell'evento sarà aperta dalle ore 10 alle 18.
La mostra, ad ingresso libero, rimarrà visitabile fino al 6 gennaio 2015 nei fine settimana.

​Le immagini di Steve McCurry presenti a Trevi raccontano "Una terra ricca di tempo": foto che rendono possibile una lettura attraverso le immagini dell'esperienza millenaria della gente che in Umbria vive, opera o visita questa terra.

“It has been an extraordinary success only achieved by few other exhibitions in our region. We are glad to have entrusted the great photographer Steve McCurry the task of ‘narrating’ Umbria through his snapshots” said the President of the Umbria Region, Catiuscia Marini, during the press conference held on Thursday evening at the ex Fatebenefratelli complex, one of the two exhibition venues, during which the results obtained so far were stressed and it was announced an extension of the exhibition until January 11th 2015.
In the event took part Steve McCurry, the author himself, the regional authority for Culture, Fabrizio Bracco, and the Perugia Council Member for Culture, Maria Teresa Severini. The president Marini has pointed out that as a result of the great success of the exhibition and following the specific request of the Chamber of Commerce, in agreement with the Municipality of Perugia, the Region decided to extend the exhibition period, which closure was originally planned for October 5th2014: “the exhibition -  she stressed – has proven to be a successful promotional instrument, enticing tourists to visit our region to discover the places captured in McCurry’s pictures.”

The exhibition “Sensational Umbria by Steve McCurry” has been visited by 35 thousand visitors from March 29th 2014 (the opening day of the exhibition) to October 9th2014. 4500 catalogues were purchased by people attending the exhibition, 600 of which bought on line, with an average of 9 copies every 100 visitors.

L'istallazione rimarrà visibile fino al 30 agosto.

Ceramica Made in Umbria: “The Contemporary Banquet” on display

The ceramic of Umbria is renewed in accordance with its centuries-long artistic tradition in the light of an artistic and functional contemporary sensitivity.
This is the key message of the collection of furnitures and objects set up within the project of the Umbria Region “Ceramica Made in Umbria”, whose presentation has been set up at the ex Fatebenefratelli through “The Contemporary Banquet”.
The scope of the “Ceramica Made in Umbria” project is to promote the artistic majolica, through the shared commitment of twenty-one among the best regional artisan enterprises. The initiative aims at giving a new image to the ceramics made in the region, starting from the unique roots of its tradition and its value, to address both strong and emerging markets at an international level. The collection takes inspiration from Medieval and Renaissance decorations through a new contemporary aesthetic sensitivity.

La ceramica umbra si rinnova nel rispetto della sua secolare tradizione artistica alla luce di una sensibilità artistica e funzionale contemporanea. È questo il messaggio della collezione di oggetti e arredi realizzata nell’ambito del progetto della Regione Umbria “Ceramica Made in Umbria” e che verrà presentata mercoledì 9 luglio, con un allestimento e un convegno ospitati nello Spazio Umbria dell’ex Fatebenefratelli (Piazza San Giovanni di Dio, 4) a Perugia, accanto alle foto di Steve McCurry sull’Umbria “sensational”.
Il programma si apre, alle ore 10, con “la parola alle imprese”, un dibattito sul comparto della ceramica umbra che sarà concluso dall’intervento dell’assessore regionale allo Sviluppo economico Vincenzo Riommi.
Si prosegue nel pomeriggio, dalle ore 15, con un “focus” sulla collezione presentata con l’allestimento del “Banchetto contemporaneo”, moderato dal dirigente del Servizio regionale Politiche per il credito e internazionalizzazione delle imprese, Franco Billi, e con le conclusioni affidate al coordinatore dell’Area Imprese e Lavoro, Luigi Rossetti.
Sono previsti, tra gli altri, interventi sul piano di comunicazione del progetto (a cura del Servizio Comunicazione istituzionale della Regione Umbria) e sull’attività di promozione del Centro Estero Umbria.
Al termine del convegno, l’apertura e la visita all’esposizione del “Banchetto contemporaneo”.

  

Umbria Jazz 2014

The Umbria Jazz Festival is the most important Italian jazz festival and one of the most significant jazz festivals in the world, held every year at the beginning of July, since 1973. For ten days the music spreads around the city center of Perugia, and the entire city turns into a stage. The Festival attracts over 200,000 people gathering in the gorgeous medieval city to enjoy Jazz music performed by acclaimed artists from around the world.
This coming edition will be the 41st (July 11th-20th) and will be still predominantly a jazz fest, however supporters will have the opportunity to enjoy a wider variety of music genres including rock and roll, Cuban salsa and African tribal music. Many performances will take place outdoors, most of which are free to attend, while the most important artists will perform in the Arena of Santa Giuliana or within the inside venues. Moreover many restaurants, wine bars and pubs host free concerts and jam sessions for their customers. 
The 2014 edition will host among others Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, the Roots, Dobet Gnahoré, Monty Alexander and the “Harlem Kingston express”, Gonzalo Rubalcaba with its band the Volcan, Michel Camilo, Hiromi, Natalie Cole, Fiorella Mannoia, Fabrizio Bosso, Danilo Rea, Dr John, and the Daptone Super Soul Revue.

57° Festival of Two Worlds

From June 27 to July 13, Spoleto inaugurates this year the 57th edition of its Festival of Two Worlds with 17 days of great entertainment, with operas, concerts, ballets, recitals, plays, along with exhibitions cinema, workshops, conferences, meetings, awards, contests, special events, with an eye to contemporary art.
Historic meeting place of different cultures, from more than half a century, Spoleto has confirmed its role as the international stage in which the leading artists of the contemporary scene come together.
Founded in 1958, thanks to the genius of Maestro Gian Carlo Menotti, the festival reached in the first decades a worldwide fame and became seen as a main source of inspiration for many similar festivals born in the following years.
Spoleto, a truly theater-town, now renews the tradition of the festival under the guidance of Giorgio Ferrara. Opera, dance, drama, concerts and cinema perform on the stage of the beautiful city theaters, making the town come alive in the streets, interiors and scenic squares dominated by the grandeur of its millenary monuments.
In the hope that art is a primary tool for the dialogue among peoples of different cultures, artists from all over the world gather in the Umbrian town of Spoleto, giving life to an impressive variety of events that go beyond the limits of national borders.

On the occasion of the event “Le Gaite” in Bevagna, on Thursday June 19th, a special show of the exhibition of 10 of Steve McCurry’s snapshots was inaugurated at the little and evocative Municipal Theatre “Francesco Torti. The local authority for Culture, Fabrizio Bracco, and the Major of Bevagna, Analita Polticchia assisted at the exhibition’s opening.
It was two years ago, during the “Gaite” event, that McCurry met his inspirer muse Veronica Corvellini, citizen of Bevagna, she participated at the event dressed in traditional costumes and today she has become the icon of Sensational Umbria. 

GAITE MARKET


Bevagna (Pg)
19th - 29th June 2014

For ten days, at the end of June, the small town of Bevagna hosts the medieval festival called “Mercato delle Gaite” (Gaite Market). The name Gaite comes from the administrative organization of the city during the Middle Ages when it was divided in four districts named Gaita. The main purpose of the event is to recreate the daily life of Bevagna between the 13th and the 14th century. To further improve the medieval spirit, the four Gaite are involved in special contests consisting of four different sessions: the market competition, the crafts competition, the gastronomic competition, and the competitions of archery. During the festival streets and squares get populated by people dressed in carefully reproduced medieval costumes, many old workshops take life and open their doors to show ancient working techniques to thousands of spectators and tourists coming every year to experience this special atmosphere.
This year the Gaite Market will take place between the 19th and the 29th of June giving the opportunity to step back in the Middle Ages with music, food, guided tours of old workshops, and competitions.

LE INFIORIATE OF SPELLO

Spello holds one of the most renowned flower festivals in Italy, dating back to the 19th century: the feast of Corpus Christi known as Infiorata (celebrated on the day of the Corpus Domini the 9th Sunday after Easter). The word Infiorata comes from the Italian word fiore and refers to something made of flowers. Every year fresh flower colors and scents appear along the main city streets. Decorators and townspeople work all Saturday night to realize immense decorative rugs and floral paintings which remain visible before the procession of the Body of Christ passes over the display on Sunday morning. Flowers are organized in about 60 different infiorata, covering almost 1.5 km.
The event attracts every year thousands of spectators and is shown on the national TV.
This year the procession will take place on the 22nd of June, however Spello will start its celebrations on June 14th. During the entire period it will be possible to visit the Infiorate museum, enjoy music along the historic center streets and squares; as well as join photographic contests, participate in guided tours by night or indulge in an exquisite dinner at “il Fiore in Bocca” a special restaurant runned by the decorators of Spello.

E' la reinterpretazione che McCurry sa offrire di luoghi e momenti emblematici dell’identità tifernate come la Manica Lunga, La Tela Umbra, I Seccatoi Burri. 

La Corsa dei Ceri


Gubbio, May 15th 2014

Every year on May 15th takes place in Gubbio one of the most ancient celebrations still alive in Italy, the race named Corsa dei Ceri. Celebrated continuously since the year 1160 as an act of devotion towards the patron of Gubbio, Saint Ubaldo, the Ceri are nowadays the emblem of Umbria.

The word Ceri stands for “candles” and refers to three wooden structures composed of two octagonal prisms, one on top of the other, fixed to a hand-barrow. The weight of each Cero is over 300 kg and it is over 7 meters high. Each one is surmounted by the statue of saint protector of the main medieval guilds of Gubbio: Saint Ubaldo for the masons, Saint George for the merchants and Saint Anthony Abbot for the farm laborers.

Launch ceremony of the Sensational Umbria by Steve McCurry in Perugia

From March 29th to October 5th 2014 in Perugia, in the spaces of the ex “Fatebenefratelli” and in the Museum of “Palazzo della Penna”, will be held the exhibition: Sensational Umbria by Steve McCurry.

100 shots by the famous US photographer will be featured. The launch ceremony will be held on Friday March 28th, at 5.00 pm, in the “Palazzo dei Priori” – “Sala dei Notari” – with the presence of the President of the Umbria Region, Catiuscia Marini; the Major of Perugia, Wladimiro Boccali; the local authority for Culture and Tourism, Fabrizio Bracco and the Italian Undesecretary of the Minister for Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, Ilaria Borletti Buitoni. After the ceremony there will be the visit to the exhibition at the “Ex Fatebenefratelli” and at the “Palazzo della Penna”.

Steve Mccurry’s shots dedicated to Umbria at CAOS in Terni

From February 15th Steve McCurry’s “Sensational Umbria” arrives in Terni, after national and international exhibitions, and it will be held in the “Sala Carroponte” of the CAOS. Twelve of the original 100 shots will be exposed to represent the journey, or rather the exploration, which led McCurry to the discovery of “extraordinary jewels”, as the photographer described them.
The photos displayed are in large size and backlit, to give viewers the opportunity to enjoy the details, the colours and the distinctive features of the pictures.

This is the subject of the conference organized by the Umbria region, together with the European Parliament, that took place on Wednesday, January 29th, in Brussels. “Sensational Umbria” show arrives at the European Parliament.

Among the displayed pictures, a particular space will be dedicated to those shots by McCurry in 2012 during the previous edition of the Umbria Jazz as a tribute to the history of the event.

The 12th Umbria World Fest edition (formerly “Canti e Discanti”) celebrate the summer solstice with a tribute to the international art photography. From June 20th to 23th, Foligno becomes a sort of “Italian capital of photography”, with seven exhibitions dedicated to highly regarded international artists (among which some collaborators of the “National Geographic” such as Steve McCurry, Anastasia Taylor-Lind and Alessandro Gandolfi), public portfolio readings, a photography award, workshops and other events related to photography and music art. Steve McCurry presents four big installations of his work “Sensational Umbria”.
